Several experiments with high-energy radioactive nuclear beams have attracted a special interest to the case of 11Li in which two neutrons form a loosely bound "halo" surrounding a 9Li core. Different sophisticated three-body calculations (HH, COSMA, CSF) were employed to explore its ground-state structural properties. Due to the lack of experimental information about 9Li - n potential and difficulty to incorporate the Pauli principle between the valence and core nucleons, even sophisticated three-body calculations are not completely reliable. We show that a simple variational technique can reproduce the physical structure of 11Li and the results compare well to the other three-body calculations.
