Tritium activities were determined for the Adriatic Sea water in samples collected at four locations on the Adriatic coast. The tritium inventory for the Adriatic Sea mixed layer in 1991 was calculated to be 7.35 · 1015 Bq (20.6 g). The net tritium input to the Adriatic through 1985-1991 period was estimated to be 5.53 · 1014 Bq yr-1 (1.55 g yr-1), being added through water vapour exchange, runoff and precipitation. The mean residence time of the mixed layer water was estimated for the Adriatic Sea to be 12.6 years.
