CHARGE SIGNATURE ON IONIZATION-EXCITATION OF He BY FAST PROJECTILES

An analytical expression for the differential cross-section for ionization-excitation of He to He⁺(np) states by high energy charged particles is formulated. The ratio of the differential cross-section by a negative projectile and of the differential cross-section by an equivelocity positive projectile is found to be greater than one when the energy of the ejected electron is less than half the ground state energy of He atom.
