DISSIPATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS AND THE QUANTUM EVOLUTION OF A SPIN SYSTEMCARL WOLF Department of Physics, North Adams State College, North Adams, MA 01247, U. S. A. Received 22 May 1997By considering a retarded discrete time version of the Schrödinger equation, we discuss how such an equation can be used to describe the environmentally induced decay of a spin system when the environment has the general properties of having a continuous unbounded energy spectrum.
